Resumen
Introducción: El Helicobacter pylori es una bacteria altamente prevalente en la población guatemalteca. Es conocida por su patología gastrointestinal pero se ha relacionado con condiciones inflamatorias sistémicas que podrían desencadenar procesos fisiopatológicos en otros sistemas orgánicos como el sistema cardiovascular. En este estudio nos enfocamos en la coexistencia de la bacteria y el síndrome coronario agudo. Objetivo: Identificar la presencia de infestación por Helicobacter pylori en pacientes que consultaron a un hospital público por un síndrome coronario agudo. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio transversal descriptivo. Se incluyeron un total de 50 pacientes ingresados a la unidad de cardiología con diagnóstico de síndrome coronario agudo, a los cuáles se les realizó antígeno de H. pylori en heces. Resultados: De todos los pacientes con síndrome coronario agudo, 68% son de sexo masculino; 52% padecen de hipertensión arterial y 50% de diabetes mellitus tipo 2. El 54% de los pacientes con síndrome coronario agudo estaban infectados por H. pylori. Conclusión: El estudio demostró mayor tasa de infección por H. pylori en pacientes con diagnóstico de SCA, sin embargo, no fue posible determinar aumento en riesgo atribuible ni causalidad.
