Resumen
Introducción: La nefropatía diabética es una enfermedad que aumenta la morbilidad, mortalidad y costos de atención médica. Además, se encuentra presente al momento del diagnóstico de diabetes. Un factor de riesgo para su desarrollo es la microalbuminuria. Objetivos: Determinar la incidencia de nefropatía diabética en pacientes con diabetes mellitus y sus características demográficas. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo transversal en pacientes adultos ambulatorios del Hospital de Obras Sociales del Santo Hermano Pedro con diabetes mellitus, en quienes se cuantifican los niveles de microalbuminuria utilizando tiras reactivas. Resultados: El 90% de los pacientes con diagnóstico de diabetes presentaron microalbuminuria, la cual mostró una correlación directa con la edad. El grado de microalbuminuria más frecuente fue de 20 mg/L, y el género masculino presentó niveles más altos de microalbuminuria. Conclusión: La prevalencia de microalbuminuria en la muestra de pacientes diabéticos sugiere que 90% de los participantes ya cursan con nefropatía diabética o se encuentran en riesgo de desarrollarla.
