Peer Review Process

The work submitted by the authors will be subject to a first review by the editor of the journal. This review will be carried out within a period of no more than one month. The authors must send complementary files (databases, etc.) to verify the authenticity of the results reflected in the manuscript. The originality of the article will be evaluated and it will follow the criteria of the format, title and writing style of the NLM (National Library of Medicine) guidelines. Likewise, the author must provide the information requested by the Ethics Committee.

The work must follow the same logic and structure of the article in the article guide. If the article does not meet the minimum requirements, it will be returned to the author with the reasons for rejection.

The editor will ask the author(s) to make the necessary corrections to improve the deficiencies found in the manuscript. The author must send these corrections within a period of no more than 15 days. Once the deficiencies are overcome, the peer review process will begin.

The editor will send the article to a first round of peer review and it will be reviewed by a minimum of two peer reviewers, experts in the subject matter of the manuscript and external to the editorial body. The Journal has implemented double-blind peer review. This type of review consists of the editor anonymizing the identity of both the author and the peer reviewers. That is, all information in the documents and communications that could potentially identify the authors and peer reviewers is removed. The editor will provide the peer reviewers with a review protocol that they must complete within a period of eight weeks. The peer reviewers will provide the editor with their complete opinion and will only make recommendations if the manuscripts are publishable without modifications, publishable after making major or minor modifications, or not publishable.

The editor will forward the recommendations and comments of the peer reviewers to the author(s). In general, the editor may initiate a second, third or more round(s) of review to address differences between the opinions of the reviewers. In the event of conflicting opinions, the manuscript will be sent to one or two additional reviewers in order to gather more information and resolve the conflict. The editor will always take into consideration the recommendations of the peer reviewers in order to make an informed decision on the acceptance or rejection of the submission. The editor has the authority to make the final decision to accept or reject a submission despite the contrary recommendations of the peer reviewers.
