Resumen
Introduction: Herpetic encephalitis is a severe infectious disease of the central nervous system that leads to an inflammatory process of the brain parenchyma; It generally presents acutely and is frequently located in the temporal lobe. It constitutes a medical emergency due to its high morbidity and mortality, which requires timely diagnosis and treatment. Clinical observation: Five-year-old female patient, with a 4-day history of seizures and dysarthria, altered state of consciousness, requiring a stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The physical examination and the FilmArray in cerebrospinal fluid support the microbiological isolation of Human Herpes virus 1, the patient was diagnosed with Herpetic Encephalitis. She completed treatment with Acyclovir without complications. Conclusion: Herpetic encephalitis, if suspected in pediatric patients with neurological symptoms and a history of fever, early diagnosis and treatment continue to be decisive to reduce the risk of complications.
