Introduction: In Latin America, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women and it is estimated that 10% of breast cancers have a hereditary component. In Guatemala, despite the underreporting, it has been shown that breast cancer is the third most common; however, there are no studies that show the prevalence of hereditary syndromes associated with this type of cancer in this region. Objective: The objective of this study was to establish the prevalence of hereditary patterns in 74 patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer, by means of pedigrees. Methodology: The field work was carried out through telephone calls and the respective family trees were made through a questionnaire. Result and Conclusions: The study concluded that 45.9% of the patients had an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance and 54.1% had a sporadic pattern. In addition, it was identified that the average age at diagnosis was 51.5 years old; with a standard deviation of 10.63 and that the prevalence of patients with breast cancer with a first-degree relative with the same cancer was 35.14%.
