Resumen
Introduction: Crain, in 1961, identified the presence of inflammation in patients with hand osteoarthritis using the term inflammatory osteoarthritis, five years later Peter et al. observed erosive radiographic changes in some cases of hand osteoarthritis. Objectives: identify the prevalence of erosive osteoarthritis of the hand (EHOA), its risk factors and the sensitivity of the criteria proposed by Anandarajah. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study, 400 patients 22 EHOA and 378 hand osteoarthritis (HOA) were compared from January 2021 to February 2022 collected by file review, the Anandarajah criteria were used.
Results: The prevalence of EHOA is 5.82% by sex, it varies from 4.76 to 1.06% in women and men respectively, its onset was abrupt, the main risk factor is obesity with a statistically significant difference between the groups studied, other factors are female , hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, manual work and joint trauma with higher individual values compared to the HOA. The diagnostic criteria studied show a sensitivity of 65%
Conclusions: EHOA presented a greater inflammatory component, abrupt onset of symptoms and association with risk factors that predispose it to a chronic proinflammatory state; We believe that EHOA could have a different etiopathogenesis than HOA, but large histological studies would be necessary.
