Resumen
Introduction: Optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography are very useful ophthalmologic imaging studies for the diagnosis of diabetic macular edema. Objective: To describe the presence of diabetic macular edema diagnosed by means of optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography in patients with diabetic retinopathy who attend the Rodolfo Robles Hospital in the retinal vascular clinic. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study carried out with data from images of 65 patients (118 eyes) diagnosed with diabetic macular edema at the Doctor Rodolfo Robles Valverde Hospital, Guatemala, during the year 2019. Results: The diagnosis of macular edema made by the optical coherence study was 75% (95% CI: 66% - 82%), and that of fluorescein angiography was 66% (95% CI: 58% - 75%) Conclusion: Both imaging studies are equally useful for the diagnosis and management of diabetic macular edema. No significant evidence was found that the proportion of macular edema diagnoses was different between both imaging studies.
