Resumen
Introduction: Urinary incontinence refers to the involuntary loss of urine. Worldwide, it affects up to 45% of adult women, with a prevalence of 13.7% in women over 18 years of age. Based on clinical experience in Guatemala there is a high frequency of urinary incontinence, especially in women; however, there are no data or studies that show that prevalence or its resolution with the different available treatments. Objective: To describe the degree of correction of stress urinary incontinence in women in the age range of 40-60 years before and after fractional CO2 laser treatment. Methodology: Descriptive, retrospective study carried out in women who attended advanced gynecological clinics. The records of patients who answered the ICIQ-UI questionnaire before and after their treatment with 3 sessions of fractionated CO2 laser were reviewed. These results were evaluated using the paired Wilcoxon test. Results: It was evidenced that prior to treatment the average score on the ICQ-UI scale was 11.12 points, corresponding to the classification of moderate urinary incontinence. After the treatment, this average was reduced to 3.7 points, reclassifying the patients as mild incontinence. Most of those patients with a score of ≥ 2 were classified as having moderate to severe urinary incontinence. Conclusion: It was observed that there is an improvement in the degree of incontinence after the completion of the treatment with fractionated CO2 laser, thus improving the symptoms of patients in their quality of life.
